Australia Day Open Day – entry
by donation.
10 am to 4 pm - Saturday 26th January 2008

Come out into the country and experience how life was in
Australia over 100 years ago, and the progress since that time.
The Jondaryan Woolshed throws open its doors to all comers to celebrate
our shared history on Australia Day – the anniversary of the
landing of the First Fleet in Sydney Harbour, in 1788.
The day will be filled with demonstrations and displays
that celebrate Australia’s pioneering past – shearing,
working horses, steam engines, wool spinning and weaving, old machinery
and tractors, blacksmithing and much more.
There will be some old-time games and activities
for kids of all ages, so bring along the family. Games will include
Tug-o-war; Sack Races; Two-legged races; Horse-shoe throwing; apple
dunking; egg-and-spoon; barrel-rolling; and, if weather permits,
billy-boiling. Come early to register, and be in the running for
some great prizes and surprises.
A special feature in 2008 will be the launch of
the book "Horse Tails & Shiny Nails",
commemorating 20 years since the Bicentennial Cobb and Co. Coach
Run from Melbourne to Cairns in 1988, which involved the Jondaryan
Woolshed to a great extent at the time. Author Elayne Gatgens-Beikoff,
and many of the people who were involved in the ride 20 years ago
will be in attendance for a reunion.
Visitors will also be able to walk the Australian Wool
Story Trail, a brand new exhibition set up in 7 buildings
around the site, incorporating one of the best collections of shearing
memorabilia in the world.
The Jondaryan Woolshed is the ideal place to remember our pioneering
past, as an icon to the mighty wool industry, with many other parts
of the collection touching on other aspects of Australia’s
progression over 200 years – farming, transport, homes, horses,
and much more.
As this is Australia Day, entry is by Donation
to the Jondaryan Woolshed Historic Museum and Park.
