Country Music Rush
15th – 16th March 2008
A Garden City Country Music Association event
The Country Music Rush held at the Jondaryan Woolshed in March
each year is hosted by the Garden City Country Music Association,
based in Toowoomba.
The 147-year-old Jondaryan Woolshed itself is the venue, and the
old timber building creates an atmosphere and quality of sound unrepeatable
anywhere else.
19 different sections of amatuer country music are contested, with
contestants expected from all over Southern Queensland, including
Roma, Warwick, Dalby, Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Gold Coast. Categories
include Junior Vocal, Senior Vocal, Bush Ballad, Gospel & Country
Rock. Winners of sections are eligible to go on to the “Champion
of Champions” event in Brisbane later in the year.
The Jondaryan Woolshed Country Music Rush has incubated much talent
over the years – a list of previous overall winners telling
the story:
- 1994 – Gary Fogarty
- 1995 - Troy Gentz
- 1996 – Sally Gentz
- 1997 – Brendon Walmsley,
- 1998 – Melissa Kummerow
- 1999 – Barry Volp
- 2000 – Kaylene Newton
- 2001 – Leisa Marie Jackwitz
- 2002 – Kim MacKenzie
- 2003 – Shele Duffill
- 2004 - Michelle Zink
- 2005 - Mick Lindsay
- 2006 - Sarah McMonagle
- 2007 - Lance Coassin
Some of these have gone on to be stars in their own right, and
all are great performers.

an Entry Form
The Rush gets underway at 8.30 Saturday morning. Saturday night
will feature a bush dance with Ridgey Didge Bush Band, and the performances
continue all day Sunday. Visitors can camp overnight in and around
the Shearers Quarters, arriving Friday afternoon if they wish. It
promises to be a great weekend of Country Music. There is plenty
of food available day and night, and a licensed bar will operate.
As this is not a Jondaryan Woolshed event, Jondaryan Woolshed
Association members do not receive free entry to the Country Music
event. The weekend and the facilities are dedicated to Country Music,
so there are no guided tours or demonstrations, and the catering
is in and around the Woolshed. Entry is via an alternative gate.
Visitors are more than welcome, and can have a look around the historic
site.
